{"id":2532,"date":"2019-12-16T09:52:21","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T09:52:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bardecode.com\/newsite\/?p=2532"},"modified":"2019-12-16T09:52:21","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T09:52:21","slug":"using-code-128-font","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bardecode.com\/newsite\/using-code-128-font\/","title":{"rendered":"Using a Code 128 font"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A barcode font is a quick and easy way to create a barcode and a lot cheaper than buying software to create the barcode, so what could be wrong in using a Code128 font?<\/p>\n<p>A Code 128 barcode breaks down as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Start character<br \/>\nData characters<br \/>\nChecksum character<br \/>\nStop character<\/p>\n<p>The start and stop characters are usually created by entering a character such as \u00cb and the stop character might be \u00ce <strong>but the checksum character needs to be calculated from the values of the other characters<\/strong>, and this can&#8217;t be done by a font (jump to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bardecode.com\/newsite\/code-128-barcode-specification\/\">code 128 specification <\/a>for details on how this can be done).<\/p>\n<p>So the short answer is &#8211; don&#8217;t use a Code 128 font for creating barcodes, use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bardecode.com\/newsite\/create-barcode\/\">something simpler like a Code 39 font<\/a> which doesn&#8217;t need a checksum character.<\/p>\n<p>If you do want to use a Code 128 font and can&#8217;t generate a checksum then you can disable the necessity for a checksum in our software with the following setting, but you will still need to make sure you get a start and stop character in your barcode:<\/p>\n<p>Code128DebugMode = 1<\/p>\n<p>HINT: The stop character consists of 4 bars where as all other characters have 3 bars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A barcode font is a quick and easy way to create a barcode and a lot cheaper than buying software to create the barcode, so what could be wrong in using a Code128 font?
